Inventing Time Travel
As I write this, a memory emerges. It catches me off guard—one I have not seen before. Warm images of hanging out with my dad that make me shiver from how good they feel.
My daughter gets those shivery things. When something really special happens, something she truly loves, she sits up straight and quivers. I asked her once, when she was 8, what she was doing when she smiled, wiggled, and did the shiver thing. She told me she had "The Zooms"—I could only surmise that it was a physical reaction to happiness. When Grace was 2 old I asked her if she was happy and I got this:
